The Cuckoo's Silence

Silas Gale is a journalist living in Haneda, an island nation that has remained isolated from the rest of the world for centuries. One evening, he lies on the lawn with his sister Mina and asks a cuckoo how long he has left to live. The bird answers with silence.

The next day, Haneda's isolation collapses. Silas is drafted as a war correspondent as foreign powers begin eyeing the newly opened nation—and its land and resources. At the same time, revolution is brewing from within. With war threatening from abroad and civil conflict closing in at home, Silas finds himself carrying a burden far greater than his own survival.
